article no.: Entomologica romanica 5: 5-10, 2000
Summary:
This paper was written and presented in 1957 by W.
Weindel, MD at the centennial anniversary of the
birth of Daniel Czekelius, MD, a prominent
transylvanian entomologist. The manuscript contains
12 typed pages and one map. For the present
rendering I selected only the notes on Parnassius
apollo and omitted the eulogy for Dr. Czekelius.
In spite
the fact that it was written 44 years ago, the work
presents new information regarding the occurrence
and abundance of
P.
apollo
in the
fauna of Romania. The author discusses two
interesting hypotheses about the penetration and the
spread of
P.
apollo
in
Romania. From his data it follows that
P.
apollo
was a
common species up to 1930. The subsequent decline in
its frequency is attributed to global climatic
changes.

Lepidoptera species (Macrolepidoptera) recorded and
reported from the Western Stara Planina Mountain, NW
Bulgaria
Stoyan Beshkov1

Museum of Natural History, 1 Tzar Osvoboditel Blvd., 1000 Sofia,
Bulgaria
article no.: Entomologica romanica 5: 11-43, 2000
Summary: This paper records the distribution data of 727
Macrolepidoptera species from tha Bulgarian part of the Western
Stara Planina Mountain. Until now, this area was one of the
least explored on of Bulgaria. The present study covers the
region situated between the Iskasrki Prolom Gorge in the east,
the Proboynitza River in the north and the Bulgaria-Yugoslavia
borderline in the west. Ponor, Mala Planina and some other parts
of the Western Stara Planina Mountains are included in the study
area, even though they do not belong to the main crest of the
mountain. Vratchanska Planina is excluded from this study. Each
species recorded from this area is listed with original capture
data and literature capture data when available. Most of the
recorded species are new for this area. Many others are reported
from new localities and different dates than previously known
from within this region. Several species are confirmatory
records for the country. Some others are known from only very
few places inside Bulgaria. Material sampling was done in almost
all parts of the region by different methods.

article no.: Entomologica romanica 5: 45-49, 2000
Summary:
Carcharodus orientalis
and
Melitaea (punica) telona
are here recorded for the first time in Romanian
fauna. C. orientalis was found in the
South-East of Romania (Dobrogea). M. punica
telona is recorded from Dobrogea, two localities
from Transylvania and from Hungary. For both taxa,
distribution and biology data, as well as the main
diagnostic characters (including genitalia) are
given. For „punica telona” complex, a
comprehensive table with all described taxa is
presented.

article no.: Entomologica romanica 5: 72-74, 2000
Summary:
Thrips physapus
is a dominant species in the thrips association from
secondary meadows from the
Gârbova

function of the abiotic factors during two years, in
the nature, that representing a world priority.

article no.: Entomologica romanica 5: 75-88, 2000
Summary: The work presents the place and the
role of the thrips associations in the praticolous
biocenosis from the
Gârbova Massive, in a systematic landing of the
researches. The values of some structural indices of
thrips populations (the specific presence, numerical
and relative abundance, dominance, constance, index
of ecological significance) were studied in relation
with the abiotical factors.

Ecological studies on the cicada populations
(Homoptera, Auchenorrhyncha) in the „Cheile Turzii”
Nature Reserve, Romania
Valentin Popa1
1„Babeş-Bolyai"
University, Department of Zoology, Clinicilor 5-7
Street, 3400 Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
article no.: Entomologica romanica 5: 91-97, 2000
Summary: This work represents a faunistic and
ecological study on the cicada populations from the
"Cheile Turzii" Nature Reserve, Romania. 94 cicada
species were identified, which means a very reach
fauna reported at such small area In the studied
area the cicada populations are represented mainly
by species with narrow ecological valence. The
species that dominate the "Cheile Turzii" area are
Turrutus socialis (Fl.). The sylvan
ecosystems are predominantly represented by
shruberry, arboricolous and also by the higrophilous
species. In the meadows the xerotermophilous species
are predominant.
The great majority of the cicada species that live
in the "Cheile Turzii" area are polyphagous. This
fact is in contradiction with their narrow
ecological valence and which demonstrate that the
limitating factors are the abiotic ones.
The most ressembling ecosytems are the coppice
located on the Hăşdate riverbanks and the mixed
forest located on the way out from the gorges.
Keywords: ecological studies, abundance,
dominance, ecological valence, ecological
similarity.
